Mental Health Awareness Through Online Sanity Tests

Whenever we feel confused or don't understand what is going on, and when we feel overwhelmed by the turn of events, we almost lose control of reality...we tend to think that we may be going nuts or getting crazy.

Insanity, or insanity, is behavior caused by mental instability. Merriam-Webster defines it as a disturbed state of mind or lack of understanding. Insanity can be considered poor health of the mind, not necessarily of the brain as an organ, which can affect mental health. People who become mad suffer from a defect in their mental processes or functions such as reasoning.

The term insanity encompasses mental disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. These mental disorders are characterized by social withdrawal, deterioration in self-care, inability to perceive oneself as a separate entity, rapid change of thought and subject, autistic absorption, hallucinatory symptoms, delusions, and often depersonalization. Symptoms can be single or combined with great variation among sufferers. Motor activity is usually reduced and appearance becomes bizarre while perceptual and conversational distortions are evident.

Schizophrenia is a psychotic symptom that persists for at least six months coupled with deterioration in occupational and social functioning. During a psychotic episode, a person is confused by reality and often experiences delusions and/or hallucinations.

Delusions are described as false and inaccurate beliefs that the person clings to even when presented with accurate information. When a person's belief about his or her importance or position in life is grossly out of proportion to what is really true, the person experiences a grand delusion. A perfect example is someone who claims to be Jesus Christ, or someone who is a prominent and well-known figure. On the other hand, when a person believes there is a conspiracy to harass, punish, or attack them, they have a delusion of persecution. Usually, the person may also believe that the group they belong to is being harassed or punished.

Hallucinations are internal sensory perceptions of sights and sounds that are not actually present. People with visual hallucinations can see an image of something that is not real, such as another person. People who have auditory hallucinations hear something that isn't really there, like hearing a voice calling.

Mental health is a concern too often overlooked by many of us. Thanks to the internet, there are now various websites you can check out that offer online questionnaires designed to assess aspects of your mental health, including your risk for depression, anxiety, and other emotional disorders. Mental health tests, which can take up to 15 minutes, are based on scientifically validated mental health assessments. The questionnaires are similar to those a mental health professional might ask about mood and eating and sleeping habits. According to Dr. John Grohol, a psychologist who created his own mental health site, the score is a numerical expression of your overall emotional health.

However, the mental health community has not officially sanctioned any tests to measure his mental health. Therefore, one should not make drastic health decisions based on these results. Still, insight into your state of mind can offer self-awareness and could prompt you into an overdue discussion with your doctor regarding appropriate treatment. It is always necessary to seek professional advice to help you solve your mental health problems and identify areas of mental stress.
